Sitagliptin Phosphate is a member of a class of medicines called DPP-4 inhibitors (dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors). It works by increasing levels of natural substances called incretins. Incretins help to control blood sugar by increasing insulin release, especially after a meal. They also decrease the amount of sugar your liver makes.
It is used to improve:
- Blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes in combination with a proper diet and exercise program
- Allergy to sitagliptin phosphate or any other ingredient used in that medicine
- A disease of the pancreas (such as pancreatitis)
- Gallstones, alcohol dependence or very high levels of triglycerides (a form of fat) in your blood.
- Type 1 diabetes
- Diabetic ketoacidosis
- History of kidney problems
- Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine in case you are pregnant or plan to be pregnant
- Do not take this medicine if you are breast-feeding or planning to breastfeed
- Not recommended for children and adoloscents under 18 years of age
- This medicine may lead to dizziness and drowsiness which may affect your ability to drive or use machines
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Digoxin
- Metoprolol, Propranolol, Timolol
- Take this tablet exactly as your doctor tells you to take it
- Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to take and when to take it
- Do not take more than your doctor has recommended
- Swallow the medicine with a glass of water
If you forget to take this medicine:
- If you miss a dose, take the next dose as usual - do not double the dose
If you stop taking this medicine:
- Do not stop taking the medicine without talking to your doctor
- Dizziness
- Constipation
- Pruritis
- Store at room temperature (15 to 25ºC)
- Keep it out of reach of children
- Do not use after expiry date
