Rosuvastatin Calcium belongs to a group of drugs known as "statins." It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. It is used along with a proper diet to help lower "bad" cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood.
It is used to treat:
- Hereditary types of high cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia)
- Allergy to rosuvastin or any of the other ingredients in this medicine
- History of liver disease
- Have severe kidney problems
- Have had any repeated or unexplained muscle aches or pains
- Have problems associated with the proper working of the thyroid gland
- Have severe respiratory failure
- This medicine is not recommeded in case you are pregnant or plan to be pregnant. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- The medicine is not recommeded if you are breast-feeding or planning to breastfeed. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- Not recommended for children younger under 6 years of age.
- Ask your doctor for advice if you are over 70 years
- Talk to you doctor before taking this medicine if you regularly consume large amounts of alcohol
- The medicine will not affect their ability to drive car and operate machinery. However if you feel dizzy, consult your doctor before attempting to drive or use machines.
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Warfarin (Blood Thinner)
- Daptomycin (Bacterial Infection)
- Gemfibrozil (Lower Fats)
- Always take this medicine as your doctor has told you The choice of your start dose will depend upon:
- Your cholesterol levels
- The level of risk you have of experiencing a heart attack or stroke
- Whether you have a factor that may make you more sensitive to possible side effects
- Swallow each tablet whole with a drink of water
If you forget to take this medicine:
- Don’t worry, just take your next scheduled dose at the correct time
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose
If you stop taking medicine:
- Talk to your doctor if you want to stop taking this medicine
- Your cholesterol levels might increase again if you stop taking this
- Diabetes mellitus
- Headache, Dizziness
- Constipation, Nausea, Abdominal pain
- Myalgia
- Asthenia
- Pruritus, Rash, Urticaria
- Thrombocytopenia
- Hypersensitivity reactions including angioedema
- Pancreatitis
- Increased hepatic transaminases
- Myopathy (including myositis), Rhabdomyolysis, Lupus-like syndrome, Muscle rupture
- Polyneuropathy, Memory loss
- Jaundice, Hepatitis
- Arthralgia
- Haematuria
- Gynaecomastia
- Store at room temperature (15 to 25ºC)
- Keep it out of reach of children
- Do not use after expiry date
