Rabeprazole belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors which is used to treat certain stomach and esophagus problems. It work by lowering the amount of acid that your stomach produces
It is used to treat:
- Certain stomach and esophagus problems
- Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
- Duodenal ulcer caused by infection with Helicobacter pylori
- Allergic to rabeprazole sodium, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- Allergic to other proton pump inhibitor medicines or 'substituted benzimidazoles'
- Have Blood and liver problems
- Have a stomach tumour
- Have ever had liver problems
- Have reduced body stores or risk factors for reduced vitamin B12 and receive long term treatment with Rabeprazole sodium
- Have ever had a skin reaction after treatment with a medicine similar to Pariet that reduces stomach acid
- Are due a specific blood test
- This medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- This medicine is not recommended if you are breast feeding or planning to breast feed, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- This medicine should not be used in children
- This medicine may feel sleepy. If this happens, do not drive or use any tools or machines
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Ketoconazole or Itraconazole
- Atazanavir
- Methotrexate
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- It should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid, preferably before breakfast
If you forget to take this medicine:
- If you have forgotten to take a dose, take it immediately when you remember and continue the treatment as usual. If it is almost time to take the next dose, you should not take the forgotten medicine.
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose
If you stop taking this medicine:
- Do not stop taking this medicine just because you feel better. If you stop taking your medicine too soon, your symptoms may return

- Bronchitis, Sinusitis, Bronchitis, Sinusitis
- Dyspepsia, Dry mouth, Eructation
- Rash, Erythema
- Myalgia, Leg cramps, Arthralgia, Fracture of the hip, Wrist or Spine
- Urinary tract infection
- Chest pain, Chills, Pyrexia
- Increased hepatic enzymes
- Neutropenia, Leucopenia, Thrombocytopenia, Leucocytosis
- Hypersensitivity
- Anorexia
- Depression
- Visual disturbance
- Gastritis, Stomatitis, Taste disturbance
- Hepatitis, Jaundice Hepatic encephalopathy
- Pruritus, Sweating, Bullous reactions
- Interstitial nephritis
- Weight increased
- Erythema multiforme, Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), Stevens-Johnson syndrome
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children
- Store at room temperature (15-25ºC)
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
