Pantoprazole is a selective “proton pump inhibitor” which is used to treat certain stomach and esophagus problems. It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes.
It is used to treat:
- Certain stomach and esophagus problems
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other conditions involving excess stomach acid
- Acid-related diseases of the stomach and intestine
- Allergic to pantoprazole or any of the ingredients in this medicine
- Allergic to medicines containing other proton pump inhibitors
- Have severe liver problems
- If you have reduced body stores or risk factors for reduced vitamin B12 and receive long-term treatment with pantoprazole
- Have osteoporosis or if you are taking corticosteroids
- Have ever had a skin reaction after treatment with a medicine similar to pantoprazole
- Get a rash on your skin especially in areas exposed to the sun
- If you are due to have a specific blood test
- If you are pregnant or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advise before taking this medicine
- If you are breast feeding or planning to breast feed, ask your doctor for advise before taking this medicine
- This medicine is not recommended for use in children as it has not been proven to work in children below 12 years of age
- This medicine has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines. If you experience side effects like dizziness or disturbed vision, you should not drive or operate machinery
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Ketoconazole, Itraconazole and Posaconazole or Erlotinib
- Warfarin and Phenprocoumon
- Atazanavir
- Methotrexate
- Fluvoxamine
- Rifampicin
- St John’s wort
- Always take this medicine exactly as how you are told to take.
- Take the tablets 1 hour before a meal without chewing or breaking them and swallow them whole with some water
If you forget to take this medicine:
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Take your next, normal dose at the usual time
If you stop taking this medicine:
- Do not stop taking these tablets without first talking to your doctor
- Sleep disorders
- Headache; Dizziness
- Diarrhoea; Nausea / vomiting; Abdominal distension and bloating; Constipation; Dry mouth; Abdominal pain and discomfort
- Liver enzymes increased
- Rash / Exanthema / Eruption; Pruritus
- Fracture of the hip, Wrist or Spine
- Asthenia, Fatigue and Malaise
- Agranulocytosis
- Hypersensitivity
- Hyperlipidaemias and lipid increases, Weight changes
- Depression
- Taste disorders
- Disturbances in vision / blurred vision
- Bilirubin increased
- Urticaria, Angioedema
- Arthralgia, Myalgia
- Gynaecomastia
- Body temperature increased; Oedema peripheral
- Thrombocytopenia, Leukopenia, Pancytopenia
- Disorientation
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
- Store at room temperature (15-25ºC)
