Modafinil is a medication that promotes wakefulness which is used to treat excessive sleepiness caused by sleep apnea, narcolepsy, or shift work sleep disorder
It is used to reduce:
- Excessive sleepiness caused by sleep apnea, narcolepsy, or shift work sleep disorder
- Allergic to modafinil, or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- Have an irregular heartbeat or heart problems
- Have uncontrolled, moderate to severe high blood pressure (hypertension)
- Have ever had depression, low mood, anxiety, psychosis or mania or bipolar disorder
- Have kidney or liver problems
- Have had alcohol or drug problems in the past
- This medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby as it is suspected to casue birth defects
- This medicine is not recommended if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed
- This medicine is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age
- This medicine may make you feel dizzy and cause blurred vision. If this happens do not drive or operate any machinery
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Hormonal contraceptives
- Omeprazole
- Indinavir or Ritonavir
- Ciclosporin
- Carbamazepine, Phenobarbital or Phenytoin
- Amitriptyline, Citalopram or Fluoxetine
- Diazepam
- Warfarin
- Amlodipine, Verapamil or Propranalol
- Atorvastatin or Simvastatin
- Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor
- Your doctor will tell you the right time of day to take this medicine
- People with narcolepsy or OSA usually take this medicine 1 time each day in the morning
- People with SWD usually take this medicine about 1 hour before their work shift
- Do not change the time of day you take this medicine unless you have talked to your doctor. If you take this medicine too close to your bedtime, you may find it harder to go to sleep
- You can take this medicine with or without food
- Tablets should be swallowed whole with water
If you forget to take this medicine:
- If you forget to take your medicine take the next dose at the usual time
- Decreased appetite
- Nervousness, Insomnia, Anxiety, Depression, Abnormal thinking, Confusion, Irritability
- Dizziness, Somnolence, Paraesthesia
- Blurred vision
- Tachycardia, Palpitation
- Vasodilatation
- Abdominal pain, Nausea,dry mouth, Diarrhoea, Dyspepsia, Constipation
- Asthenia, Chest pain
- Abnormal liver function tests, Dose related increases in alkaline phosphatise and Gamma glutamyl transferase
- Pharyngitis, Sinusitis
- Eosinophilia, Leucopenia
- Minor allergic reaction
- Hypercholesterolaemia, Hyperglycaemia, Diabetes mellitus, Increased appetite
- Sleep disorder, Emotional lability, Decreased libido, Hostility, Depersonalisation, personality disorder, Abnormal dreams, Agitation, Aggression, Suicidal ideation, Psychomotor hyperactivity
- Dyskinesia, Hypertonia, Hyperkinesia, Amnesia, Migraine, Tremor, Vertigo, CNS stimulation, Hypoaesthesia, Incoordination, Movement disorder, Speech disorder, Taste perversion
- Abnormal vision, Dry eye
- Extrasystoles, Arrhythmia, Bradycardia
- Hypertension, Hypotension
- Dyspnoea, Increased cough, Asthma, Epistaxis, Rhinitis
- Flatulence, Reflux, Vomiting, Dysphagia, Glossitis, Mouth ulcers
- Sweating, Rash, Acne, Pruritis
- Back pain, Neck pain, Myalgia, Myasthenia, Leg cramps, Arthralgia, Twitch
- Abnormal urine, Urinary frequency
- Menstrual disorder
- Peripheral oedema, Thirst
- Abnormal ECG, Weight increase, Weight decrease
- Hallucinations, Mania, Psychosis
- Store this medicine at temperature between (15-25°C)
- Keep this medicine out of the reach of children
- Do not use after the expiry date
