Levetiracetam belongs to a class of drugs known as anticonvulsants which is used to treat seizures
It is used to treat :
- Seizures
- Tonic-clonic seizures in people who are at least 6 years old
- Myoclonic seizures in people who are at least 12 years old
- Partial onset seizures with or without generalisation in adults, adolescents, children and infants from one month of age
- Allergic to levetiracetam, pyrrolidone derivatives or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- Suffering from kidney problems
- Had noticed any slow down in the growth or unexpected puberty development of your child
- Have any symptoms of depression and/or suicidal ideation
- If you are pregnant or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- This medicine is not recommended if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- This medicine is not recommended in children and adolescents below 16 years on its own
- This medicine may make you feel sleepy. If this happens, do not drive or operate any machinery
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- This medicine must be taken twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, at about the same time each day
- It is used as a chronic treatment. You should continue this medicine as long as your doctor has told you
- Swallow the tablets with a glass of water
- You may take this medicine with or without food
If you forget to take this medicine:
- Contact your doctor if you have missed one or more doses
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose
If you stop taking this medicine:
- Consult your doctor before stopping the medicine. If stopping treatment, this medicine should be discontinued gradually to avoid an increase of seizures

- Anorexia
- Depression, Hostility/ aggression, Anxiety, Insomnia, Nervousness/irritability
- Convulsion, Balance disorder, Dizziness, Lethargy, Tremor
- Vertigo
- Cough
- Abdominal pain, Diarrhoea, Dyspepsia, Vomiting, Nausea
- Rash
- Asthenia/fatigue
- Thrombocytopenia, Leukopenia
- Weight decreased, Weight increase
- Suicide attempt, Suicidal ideation, Psychotic disorder, Abnormal behaviour, Hallucination, Anger, Confusional state, Panic attack, Affect lability/mood swings, Agitation
- Amnesia, Memory impairment, Coordination abnormal/ataxia, Paraesthesia, Disturbance in attention
- Diplopia, Vision blurred
- Liver function test abnormal
- Alopecia, Eczema, Pruritus,
- Muscular weakness, Myalgia
- Injury
- Infection
- Pancytopenia, Neutropenia, Agranulocytosis
- Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms ,Hypersensitivity
- Hyponatraemia
- Completed suicide, Personality disorder, Thinking abnormal, Delirium
- Choreoathetosis, Dyskinesia, Hyperkinesia, Gait disturbance, Encephalopathy
- Pancreatitis
- Hepatic failure, Hepatitis
- Acute Kidney injury
- Toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Erythema multiforme
- Rhabdomyolysis and blood creatine phosphokinase increased
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
- Store at room temperature (15-25°C)
