Linagliptin is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels. It works by regulating the levels of insulin your body produces after eating. Linagliptin is used together with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This medicine is not for treating type 1 diabetes.
It is used to control:
- High Blood Sugar in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
- Allergy to linagliptin or any of the other ingredients in this medicine
- Have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis
- Taking an anti-diabetic medicine known as a ‘sulphonylurea’(e.g. glimepiride, glipizide)
- Have allergic reactions to any other medicines taken to control the amount of sugar in your blood
- Have had a disease of the pancreas
- It is preferable to avoid this medicine as it is unknown whether it is harmful to the unborn child. So, consult your doctor before taking this medicine in case you are pregnant or plan to be pregnant
- Consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you are breast-feeding or planning to breastfeed as it is unknown whther it passes into human breast milk.
- Not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Rifampin
- Metoprolol, Propanol
- Take this tablet exactly as your doctor tells you to take it
- Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to take and when to take it
- Do not change your dose unless your doctor tells you to
- Take this medicine one time each day at the same time
- Take this medicine with or without food
If you forget to take this medicine:
- Take it as soon as you remember it. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Never take two doses on the same day
If you stop taking this medicine:
- Do not stop taking without knowledge of your doctor. Your blood sugar levels may increase when you stop taking this medicine
- Hypersensitivity
- Nasopharyngitis
- Cough
- Constipation
- Rash
- Amylase increased
- Pancreatitis
- Angioedema
- Urticaria
- Bullous pemphigoid
- Store at room temperature (15 to 25ºC)
- Keep it out of reach of children
- Do not use after expiry date
