Gliclazide belongs to a group of medicines called sulfonylureas. It is an oral hypoglycemic medicine which helps in lowering blood sugar when it cannot be controlled by diet, physical excercise and and weight loss alone.
It is used to improve:
- Blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes in combination with a proper diet and exercise program
- Allergy to gliclazide or any other ingredient used in that medicine
- Insulin dependent diabetes (Type 1)
- Severe kidney or liver disease
- Type 1 diabetes
- Diabetic ketoacidosis
- Have a fungal infection
- Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine in case you are pregnant or plan to be pregnant
- Do not take this medicine if you are breast-feeding or planning to breastfeed
- Not recommended for children and adoloscents
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Oral Antidiabetics, GLP-1 receptor inhibitors or insulin
- Sulfanamides, Clarithomycin
- Captopril, Enalapril
- Miconazole, Fluconazole
- H2 receptor antagonists
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors
- Phenylbutazone, Ibuprofen
- Chlorpromazine
- Corticosteriods
- Salbutamol, ritodrine, Terbutaline
- Danzol
- St John’s Wort
- Take this tablet exactly as your doctor tells you to take it
- Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to take and when to take it
- Do not take more than your doctor has recommended
- Swallow the medicine with a glass of water
If you forget to take this medicine:
- If you miss a dose, take the next dose as usual - do not double the dose
If you stop taking this medicine:
- Do not stop taking the medicine without talking to your doctor
- Abdominal pain, Nausea, Vomiting, Indigestion, Diarrhea, Constipation
- Rash, Redness, Itching, Hives, Angioedema
- Decrease in number of cells (platelets, red and white blood cells)
- Abnormal liver function
- Vision maybe affected for a short time due to change in blood sugar levels
- Store at room temperature (15 to 25ºC)
- Keep it out of reach of children
- Do not use after expiry date
