Fluconazole belongs to a class of drugs called azole antifungals which is used to prevent and treat a variety of fungal and yeast infections. It works by stopping the growth of certain types of fungus
It is used to treat :
- Infections caused by fungi and yeasts
- Allergic to fluconazole or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- Have any disease or illness affecting your liver or kidneys or have had unexplained jaundice
- Suffer from heart disease including heart rhythm problems
- Have abnormal levels of potassium, Calcium or magnesium in your blood
- Develop severe skin reactions
- Develop signs of ‘adrenal insufficiency’
- Have had exposure to a sexually transmitted disease
- Are unsure about the cause of your symptoms
For Women:
- Have any abnormal or irregular vaginal bleeding or a blood stained discharge
- Have vulval or vaginal sores, ulcers or blisters
- Are experiencing lower abdominal pain or burning on passing urine
For Men:
- Your sexual partner does not have vaginal thrush
- Have penile sores
- Have an abnormal penile discharge
- Your penis has started to smell
- Have pain on passing urine
- This medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- This medicine is not recommended if you are breast feedinng or planning to breast feed. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- This medicine is not recommended for use in children under 16 years
- This medicine is not recommended for older adults over 60 years
- This medicine may cause dizziness. If this happens, do not drive or use any machinery
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:

- Midazolam, Triazolam or Similar medicines
- Olaparib
- Chlorpropamide, Glibenclamide, Glipizide, Tolbutamide
- Phenytoin, Carbamazepine
- Ciclosporin, Everolimus, Sirolimus, Tacrolimus
- Theophylline
- Tofacitinib
- Zidovudine
- Prednisone
- Oral contraceptives
- Alfentanil, Fentanyl
- Celecoxib, Flurbiprofen, Naproxen,Ibuprofen,Iornoxicam, Meloxicam, Diclofenac
- Amitriptyline and Nortriptyline
- Amphotericin B, Voriconazole
- Cyclophosphamide and Vincristine, Vinblastine
- Halofantrine
- Statins
- Vitamin A
- Methadone
- Ivacaftor
- Amiodarone
- Hydrochlorothiazide
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- Swallow this medicine whole with water with or without food
- Take this medicine once daily
If you forget to take this medicine:
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose
- If you miss one dose, take your next dose on the day after the missed dose
If you stop taking this medicine:
- You should not stop this medicine unless told to do so by your doctor
- Headache
- Abdominal pain, Vomiting, Diarrhoea, Nausea
- Alanine aminotransferase increased
- Rash
- Anaemia
- Decreased appetite
- Insomnia, Somnolence
- Seizures, Dizziness, Paraesthesia, Taste perversion
- Vertigo
- Constipation dyspepsia, Flatulence, Dry mouth
- Cholestasis, Jaundice, Bilirubin increased
- Pruritus, Urticaria, Increased sweating, Drug eruption
- Myalgia
- Fatigue, Malaise, Asthenia, Fever
- Agranulocytosis, Leukopenia, Neutropenia, Thrombocytopenia
- Anaphylaxis
- Hypertriglyceredaemia, Hypercholesterolaemia, Hypokalaemia
- Tremor
- Torsade de pointes, QT Prolongation
- Hepatic failure, hepatocellular Necrosis, hepatitis, hepatocellular damage
- Toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Acute generalised exanthematouspustulosis, Dermatitis exfoliative, Angioedema, Face oedema, Alopecia
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
- Store at room temperature (15-25°C)
