Enalapril Maleate belongs to a class of drugs known as Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily.
It is used to treat:
- High Blood Pressure
- Congestive Heart Failure
- Allergy to enalapril maleate or any of the other ingredients in this medicine
- Suffer from angiodema
- Have diabetes
- Have a heart problem
- Have a condition involving the blood vessels in the brain
- Have a blood problem such as low or lack of white blood cells, low blood platelet count or a decreased number of red blood cells
- Have kidney problem (including kidney transplantation)
- Have been sick (excessive vomiting) or had bad diarrhoea recently
- Have a liver problem or had jaundice before
- Having dialysis
- Have low blood pressure
- Have collagen vascular disease
- This medicine is not recommended in early pregnancy, and must not be taken when more than 3 months pregnant, as it may cause serious harm to your baby if used after the third month of pregnancy. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- This medicine is not recommeded if you are breast-feeding or planning to breastfeed. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- This medicine is not recommended in newborn babies (first few weeks after birth) and in children with kidney problems
- Consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you are an elderly patient with kidney problems
- Not recommended to drink alcohol while taking the medicine since it may cause your blood sugar levels to drop and experience dizziness, light-headedness or faintness
- Taking the medicine may make you feel dizzy or sleepy. If this happens do not drive or use machines
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Aliskeren
- Everolimus, Sirolimus
- Losartan, Valsartan
- Drospirenone
- Lithium
- Injections for bee/ wasp sting allergy
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- It should be swallowed whole with a glass of water
- It can be taken with or without food
- Do not cut, crush or chew the tablet
If you forget to take the medicine:
- If you forget to take a dose, skip the missed dose. Take the next dose as usual. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose
If you stop taking the medicine:
- Do not stop taking your medicine unless your doctor has told you to do so
- Dizziness
- Blurred vision
- Cough
- Nausea
- Asthenia
- Headache, Syncope, Taste alteration
- Depression
- Chest pain, Rhythm disturbances, Angina pectoris, Tachycardia
- Hypotension
- Dyspnea
- Diarrhoea, Abdominal pain
- Fatigue
- Hyperkalaemia, Increases in serum creatinine
- Rash, Hypersensitivity/Angioneurotic oedema
- Anaemia
- Somnolence, Paresthesia, Vertigo
- Hypoglycaemia
- Confusion, Nervousness, Insomnia
- Tinnitus
- Palpitations, Myocardial infarction or Cerebrovascular accident
- Flushing, Orthostatic hypotension
- Rhinorrhea, Sore throat and Hoarseness, Bronchospasm/Asthma
- Ileus, Pancreatitis, Vomiting, Dyspepsia, Constipation, Anorexia, Gastric irritations, Dry mouth, Peptic ulcer
- Diaphoresis, Pruritus, Urticaria, Alopecia
- Muscle cramps
- Renal dysfunction, Renal failure, Proteinuria
- Impotence
- Malaise, Fever
- Increases in blood urea, Hyponatremia
- Neutropenia, Decreases in haemoglobin, Decreases in haematocrit, Thrombocytopenia, Agranulocytosis, Bone marrow depression, Pancytopenia, Lymphadenopathy, Autoimmune diseases
- Dream abnormality, Sleep disorders
- Raynaud's phenomenon
- Pulmonary infiltrates, Rhinitis, Allergic alveolitis/Eosinophilia pneumonia
- Stomatitis/Aphthous Ulcerations, Glossitis
- Hepatic failure, Hepatitis – Either hepatocellular or Cholestatic
- Erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Exfoliative dermatitis, Toxic epidermal necrolysis, Pemphigus, Erythroderma
- Oliguria
- Gynecomastia
- Elevations of liver enzymes, Elevations of serum bilirubin
- Protect from excess heat and light
- Store at room temperature (15-25ºC)
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
