Amitriptyline belongs to a class of medications called tricyclic antidepressant. Amitriptyline affects chemicals in the brain that may be unbalanced in people with depression. It may help improve mood and feelings of well-being, relieve anxiety and tension, help you sleep better, and increase your energy level.
- Allergy to amitriptyline hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients in this medicine
- Have had a heart attack recently
- Have heart problems such as disturbances in heart rhythm which are seen on an electrocardiogram (ECG), heart block, or coronary artery disease
- Suffering from a severe liver disease
- Have a problem that gives you a low level of potassium or magnesium, or a high level of potassium in your blood
- Have an over active thyroid gland
- This medicine is not recommeded in case you are pregnant or plan to be pregnant. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine if you are breast-feeding or planning to breastfeed
- This medicine is not recommended for children below 6 years of age
- Elderly are more likely to suffer from certain side effects, such as dizziness when you stand up due to low blood pressure
- Not recommended to drink alcohol during treatment as it might increase the sedative effect
- This medicine may cause you drowsiness and dizziness, especially in the beginning of the treatment. Do not drive or work with tools or machinery if you are affected

- Clonidine, Guanabenz
- Benztropine, Belladonna
- Isocarboxazid, Linezolid, Methylene Blue, Moclobemide, Phenelzine, Procarbazine, Rasagiline, Safinamide, Selegiline, Tranylcypromine
- Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to take and when to take it
- Do not take more than your doctor has recommended
If you forget to take this medicine:
- If you miss a dose, take the next dose as usual - do not double the dose
If you stop taking this medicine:
- Do not stop taking the medicine without talking to your doctor

- Somnolence, Tremor, Dizziness, Headache, Drowsiness, Speech disorder (dysarthria)
- Accommodation disorder
- Palpitations, Tachycardia
- Orthostatic hypotension
- Congested nose
- Dry mouth, Constipation, Nausea
- Hyperhidrosis
- Weight increased
- Confusional state, Libido decreased, Agitation
- Disturbance in attention, Dysgeusia. Paresthesia, Ataxia
- Mydriasis
- Atrioventricular block, Bundle branch block
- Micturition disorders
- Erectile dysfunction
- Fatigue, Feeling thirst
- Electrocardiogram abnormal, Electrocardiogram QT prolonged, Electrocardiogram QRS complex prolonged, Hyponatremia
- Hypomania, Mania, Anxiety, Insomnia, Nightmare
- Convulsion
- Tinnitus
- Collapse conditions, Worsening of cardiac failure
- Hypertension
- Diarrhoea, Vomiting, Tongue oedema
- Hepatic impairment (e.g. cholestatic liver disease)
- Rash, Urticaria, Face oedema
- Urinary retention
- Galactorrhoea
- Intraocular pressure increased
- Bone marrow depression, Agranulocytosis, Leucopenia, Eosinophilia, Thrombocytopenia
- Decreased appetite
- Delirium (in elderly patients), Hallucination, Suicidal thoughts or Behavior
- Arrhythmia
- Salivary gland enlargement, Ileus paralytic
- Jaundice
- Alopecia, Photosensitivity reaction
- Gynaecomastia
- Pyrexia
- Weight decreased, Liver function test abnormal, Blood alkaline phosphatase increased, Transaminases increased
- Akathisia, Polyneuropathy
- Acute glaucoma
- Cardiomyopathies, Torsades de pointes
- Allergic inflammation of the pulmonary alveoli and of the lung tissue, respectively (alveolitis, Loffler's syndrome)
- Protect from excess heat and light
- Store at room temperature (15 to 25ºC)
- Keep it out of reach of children
- Do not use after expiry date
