Cyclobenzaprine HCL is a muscle relaxant which is used short-term to treat muscle spasms. It works by blocking nerve impulses (or pain sensations) that are sent to your brain, which help to relax the muscle.
- Allergy to cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride or other ingredients of this medicine
- Have a history of urinary retention
- Have angle-closure glaucoma
- Have increased intraocular pressure
- Have hepatic impairment
- Acute recovery phase of myocardial infarction
- Have arrhythmias, heart block or conduction disturbances, or congestive heart failure
- Have hyperthyroidism
- If you are pregnant or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- If you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine as it is not known whether it is excreted in human milk.
- This medicine is not recommended for children and adolescents under 15 years of age
- If you are elderly the risk for adverse effects such as hallucinations and confusion, cardiac events resulting in falls or other sequelae increases. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- Drinking alcohol while taking this medicine may enhance the effect of alcohol
- This medicine may cause impair mental and physical abilities required for performance of hazardous tasks, such as operating machinery or driving a motor vehicle. If this happens do not drive or operate any machinery
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Anticholinergic medication
- Amitriptyline and Imipramine
- Isocarboxazid, Linezolid, Phenelzine, Rasagiline, Selegiline, or Tranylcypromine
- Codeine, Hydrocodone
- Alprazolam, Lorazepam, Zolpidem
- Carisoprodol, Methocarbamol
- Cetirizine, Diphenhydramine
- St. John's wort
- Fluoxetine/paroxetine
- Duloxetine/venlafaxine
- Tramadol
- Always take this medicine as the doctor has told you
- Swallow the capsule whole and do not crush, chew, break, or open it
If you forgot to take this medicine:
- Take the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose
- Do not take two doses at one time
- Drowsiness
- Dry Mouth
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Abdominal pain, Acid regurgitation
- Constipation, Diarrhea, Dizziness, Nausea
- Irritability, Mental acuity decreased, Nervousness
- Upper respiratory infection, and Pharyngitis
- Syncope, Malaise
- Tachycardia, Arrhythmia, Vasodilatation, Palpitation, Hypotension
- Vomiting, Anorexia, Diarrhea, Gastrointestinal pain, Gastritis, Thirst, Flatulence, Edema of the tongue, Abnormal liver function and Rare reports of hepatitis, Jaundice and Cholestasis
- Anaphylaxis, Angioedema, Pruritus, Facial edema, Uurticaria, Rash
- Local weakness
- Seizures, ataxia, Vertigo, Dysarthria Tremors, Hypertonia, Convulsions, Muscle twitching, Disorientation, Insomnia, Depressed mood, Abnormal sensations, Anxiety, Agitation, Psychosis, Abnormal thinking and Dreaming, Hallucinations, Excitement, Paresthesia, Diplopia
- Sweating
- Ageusia, Tinnitus
- Urinary frequency and/or Retention
- Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light
- Keep all medications away from children and pets
