Bupropion is an antidepressant medication used to treat major depressive disorder and seasonal affective disorder and also to stop smoking. work by helping to restore the balance of certain natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in your brain.
It is used to treat/ help:
- Depression
- To stop smoking
- Allergic to bupropion or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- Have a history of fits
- Have or had an eating disorder
- Have severe liver problems and kidney problems
- Have a brain tumour
- Are usually a heavy drinker
- Have recently stopped taking sedatives or Medicines to treat anxiety
- Have a bipolar disorder
- Have diabetes
- Have had serious head injury
- Have or have had mental health problems
- This medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- This medicine is not recommended if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed as the ingredients can pass in to breast milk. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- It is not recommended for adolescents under 18 years
- This medicine is not recommended to drink alcohol while taking this medicine
- This medicine may make you feel dizzy or lightheaded and may affect your concentration and judgement. If this happens then do not drive or operate any machinery
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Desipramine, Imipramine, Paroxetine
- Risperidone, Thioridazine
- Levodopa, Amantadine or Orphenadrine
- Theophylline
- Tramadol
- Medicines against malaria
- Stimulants or Other medicines to control your weight or Appetite
- Steroids
- Antibiotics called quinolones
- Some types of anti-histamines mainly used to treat allergies
- Medicines for diabetes
- Medicines for Parkinson’s disease
- Carbamazepine, Phenytoin or Valproate
- Cyclophosphamide, Ifosphamide
- Ticlopidine or Clopidogrel
- Metoprolol
- Propafanone, Flecainide
- Ritonavir or Efavirenz
- Tamoxifen
- Digoxin
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you
- Take this medicine with or without food
- Swallow the medicine whole. Don’t chew them, crush them or split them
If you forget to take this medicine:
- If you miss a dose, wait and take your next tablet at the usual time
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose
If you stop taking this medicine:
- Don’t stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor first. You may need to reduce your dose gradually
- Hypersensitivity reactions such as urticarial
- Depression, Agitation, Anxiety
- Tremor, Concentration disturbance, Headache, Dizziness, Taste disorders
- Dry mouth, Gastrointestinal disturbance including nausea and Vomiting, Abdominal pain, Constipation
- Rash, Pruritus, Sweating
- Fever
- Anorexia
- Confusion
- Visual disturbance
- Tinnitus
- Tachycardia
- Increased blood pressure (sometimes severe), Flushing
- Chest pain, Asthenia
- More severe hypersensitivity reactions including Angioedema, Dyspnoea/Bronchospasm and Anaphylactic shock. Arthralgia, myalgia and Fever have also been reported in association with rash and Other symptoms suggestive of delayed hypersensitivity. These symptoms may resemble serum sickness
- Blood glucose disturbances
- Irritability, Hostility, Hallucinations, Depersonalisation, Abnormal dreams including nightmares
- Seizures, Dystonia, Ataxia, Parkinsonism, Incoordination, Memory impairment, Paraesthesia, Syncope
- Palpitations
- Vasodilation, Postural hypotension
- Elevated liver enzymes, Jaundice, Hepatitis
- Erythema multiforme and Stevens Johnson syndrome, Exacerbation of psoriasis
- Twitching
- Urinary frequency and/or Retention
- Delusions, Paranoid ideation, Restlessness, Aggression
- Urinary incontinence
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
- Do not store this medicine above 25 °C
- Store it in the original package
