Azithromycin is an antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections such as respiratory infections, skin infections, ear infections, eye infections, and sexually transmitted diseases.
It is used to treat:
- Different types of infections caused by bacteria.
- Allergy to azithromycin or any of the other ingredients in this medicine
- Have ever had a serious allergic reaction causing swelling of the face and throat, possibly with breathing problems, rash, fever, swollen glands or increase in eosinophils
- Have severe kidney problems
- Have liver problems
- Have myasthenia gravis (localised muscle weakness)
- Have been diagnosed with a neurological disease, which is a disease of the brain or nervous system
- Have mental, emotional or behavioural problems
- Have a slow or irregular heartbeat, or reduced heart function (heart failure)
- Have been diagnosed to have prolonged QT interval
- Have low levels of potassium or magnesium in your blood
- This medicine is not recommeded in case you are pregnant or plan to be pregnant. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- This medicine is not recommeded if you are breast-feeding or planning to breastfeed as it is excreted in human milk. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- This medicine is not recommended for children and adolescents with a body weight of 45 kg and under
- This medicine may cause dizziness and fits. If this happens do not drive or operate machinery
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Rifampin, Rifabutin
- Amiodarone, Disopyramide, Dofetilide, Dronedarone, Ibutilide, Pimozide, Procainamide, Quinidine, Sotalol
- Pimozide
- Take this tablet exactly as your doctor tells you to take it
- Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to take and when to take it
- Do not take more than your doctor has recommended
- It should be taken by mouth and can be taken with or without food

- Headache, Dizziness, Somnolence, Dysgeusia, Paraesthesia
- Visual impairment
- Deafness
- Vomiting, Dyspepsia

- Leukopenia, Neutropenia, Eosinophilia
- Angioedema, Hypersensitivity
- Anorexia
- Nervousness, Insomnia
- Hypoaesthesia
- Ear disorder, Vertigo, Hearing impairment including hearing loss, Tinnitus
- Palpitations
- Hot flushes
- Dyspnoea, Epistaxis
- Constipation, Gastritis, Dysphagia, Abdominal distension, Dry mouth, Eructation, Mouth ulceration, Salivary hypersecretion
- Hepatitis, Abnormal hepatic function
- Urticaria, dermatitis, Dry skin, Hyperhidrosis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Photosensitivity reaction
- Osteoarthritis, Myalgia, Back pain, Neck pain
- Dysuria, Renal pain
- Metrorrhagia, Testicular disorder
- Oedema, Asthenia, Malaise, Face oedema, Chest pain, Pyrexia, Pain, Peripheral oedema
