Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to a class of thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention. It works by causing you to make more urine. This helps your body get rid of extra salt and water.
It is used to treat:
- High Blood Pressure
- Treat fluid retention (Edema)
- Allergic to hydrochlorothiazide or any other ingredients used in the medicine
- Have an impaired renal function or suffer from severe renal disease
- Impaired hepatic function or progressive liver disease
- History of allergy or bronchial asthma
- Have diabetes
- Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or plan to be pregnant. This medicine should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Not recommended to take this medicine if you are breast-feeding or planning to breastfeed as this medicine excretes into breast milk
- Not recommended for children below the age of 2
- Older adults may be more sensitive to the effects of this drug, especially dizziness
- Ceratin side effects may be aggravated with the consumption of alcohol
- This drug may make you dizzy, so do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Defotilide
- Lithium
- Ibuprofen/Naproxen
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- It can be taken with or without food
If you forget to take the medicine:
- If you forget to take a dose, skip the missed dose. Take the next dose as usual. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose
If you stop taking the medicine:
- Do not stop taking your medicine unless your doctor has told you to do so
- Agranulocytosis, Aplastic anaemia, Haemolytic anaemia, Leukopenia, Purpura, Thrombocytopaenia
- Anorexia, Hyperglycaemia, Hyperuricaemia, Hypokalaemia, Hyponatraemia
- Transient blurred vision, Xanthopsia
- Necrotizing angiitis (vasculitis, cutaneous vasculitis)
- Respiratory distress including Pneumonitis and Pulmonary oedema
- Sialoadenitis, Spasms, Stomach irritation, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhoea, Constipation
- Pancreatitis
- Photosensitivity, Urticaria, Toxic epidermal necrolysis
- Muscle cramps
- Glycosuria, Interstitial nephritis, Renal dysfunction, Renal failure
Fever, Dizziness
- Protect from excess heat and light
- Store at room temperature (15-25ºC)
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
