Tamsulosin belongs to a group of medicines called ‘alpha blockers’ which is used to improve urination in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia. It works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and the bladder making it easier to urinate.
It is used to:
- Treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia-BPH)
- Allergic to tamsulosin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- Have problems with your heart, liver, or kidneys
- If you faint or get dizzy or weak when you sit or stand up suddenly
- Have had your symptoms for less than three months
- Have pain when you urinate, or your urine was cloudy or bloody, at sometime in the last three months
- Have a fever due to an infection of your kidneys or bladder
- Have leaking of your urine which you are unable to control
- Have diabetes and it is not properly controlled
- Have had prostate surgery
- Have recently had blurred or cloudy vision and have not been examined by your doctor or optician
- Are about to undergo eye surgery for cataract or glaucoma
- This medicine is not for women
- This medicine is not recommended if you are over 75 years of age
- This medicine may makes you feel weak or dizzy or have blurred vision. If this happens, do not drive or operate any machinery
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Verapamil and Diltiazem
- Ritonavir or Indinavir
- Ketoconazole or Itraconazole
- Doxazosin, Indoramin, Prazosin, or Alfuzosin
- Erythromycin
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure
- This medicine should be taken after breakfast or after your first meal of the day
- Swallow the medicine whole with a glass of water
If you forget to take this medicine:
- You may take daily this medicine later the same day if you have forgotten to take it as recommended
- Never take a double dose to make up for the forgotten dose
If you stop taking this medicine:
- When treatment with this medicine is stopped prematurely, your original complaints may return
- Always consult your doctor, if you consider stopping this therapy
- Dizziness
- Ejaculation disorders, Including retrograde ejaculation and ejaculation failure
- Headache
- Palpitations
- Orthostatic hypotension
- Rhinitis
- Constipation, Diarrhoea, Nausea, Vomiting
- Rash, Pruritus, Urticarial
- Asthenia
- Stevens-Johnson syndrome
- Priapism
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
- Store at temperature between (15-25ºC)
