Isotretinoin belongs to a group of medicines known as retinoids that is used to treat skin problems. It works by decreasing facial oil production
It is used to treat:
- Skin problems like severe nodular acne
- Allergic to isotretinion or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- Have liver disease
- Have very high levels of vitamin A in your body
- Have very high levels of cholesterol or triglycerides in your blood
- Have ever had any kind of mental health problems
- Severe skin reactions
- Have any kidney problems
- Have severe bloody diarrhoea
- Have high blood fats, Diabetes (high blood sugars)
- This medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
- This medicine is not recommended if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine as it is ikely to pass into your breast milk and may harm your baby
- This medicine is not recommended for children under 12 years
- Drinking alcohol is not recommended while taking this medicine
- This medicine may affect your night vision and may cause drowsiness or dizziness.If this happens, do not drive or operate any machinery
Please inform your doctor in case you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Tetracycline antibiotics
- Vitamin A supplements
- Other acne treatments
- Always take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor
- The amount of this medicine you take has been specially chosen for you. It is based on your body weight and may change during treatment
- Swallow this medicine whole with a full glass of water
If you forget to take this medicine:
- If you miss a dose, just skip that dose
- Do not take two doses at the same time
If you stop taking this medicine:
- Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor
- Anaemia, Red blood cell sedimentation rate increased, Thrombocytopenia, Thrombocytosis
- Blepharitis, Conjunctivitis, Dry eye, Eye irritation
- Transaminase increased
- Cheilitis, Dermatitis, Dry skin, Localised exfoliation, Pruritus, Rash erythematous, Skin fragility
- Arthralgia, myalgia, back pain
- Blood triglycerides increased, High density lipoprotein decreased
- Neutropenia
- Headache
- Epistaxis, Nasal dryness, Nasopharyngitis
- Blood cholesterol increased, Blood glucose increased, Haematuria, Proteinuria
- Allergic skin reaction, Anaphylactic reactions, Hypersensitivity
- Depression, Depression aggravated, Aggressive tendencies, Anxiety, Mood alterations
- Alopecia
- Gram positive bacterial infection
- Lymphadenopathy
- Diabetes mellitus, Hyperuricaemia
- Abnormal behaviour, Psychotic disorder, Suicidal ideation, Suicide attempt, Suicide
- Benign intracranial hypertension, Convulsions, Drowsiness, Dizziness
- Blurred vision, Cataract, Colour blindness, Contact lens intolerance, Corneal opacity, Decreased night vision, Keratitis, Papilloedema , Photophobia, Visual disturbances
- Hearing impaired
- Vasculitis
- Bronchospasm, Hoarseness
- Colitis, Ileitis, Dry throat, Gastrointestinal haemorrhage, haemorrhagic diarrhoea and inflammatory bowel disease, Nausea, Pancreatitis
- Hepatitis
- Acne fulminans. Acne aggravated, Erythema , Exanthema, Hair disorders, Hirsutism, Nail dystrophy, Paronychia, Photosensitivity reaction, Pyogenic granuloma, Skin hyperpigmentation, Sweating increased
- Arthritis, Calcinosis , Epiphyses premature fusion, Exostosis , Reduced bone density, Tendonitis
- Glomerulonephritis
- Granulation tissue, Malaise
- Blood creatine phosphokinase increased
- Store this medicine at room temperature (15-25ºC)
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use this after the expiry date
